SB 173-013 Cleave the abomination in two; Splitting Public Relations Director into two positions.

Whereas, the Public Relations Director should be split into two positions, the Organizing Director and the Government Relations Director to allow both jobs to be achievable;

Whereas, even split, the Government Relations Director would need help;

Therefore be it

Enacted, that following bylaws be inserted:

710.1.1 The Government Relations Council shall consist of voting members comprised of the, ASUAF President, one at-large student appointed by the Government Relations Director, the Public Relations Chair, one student from each officially-recognized political club on campus wishing to participate, one at-large student appointed by the Senate Chair and one at-large student appointed by the ASUAF President.

921. Duties of the Public Relations Department

921.1 The Public Relations Department works with the students, staff, and elected officials of ASUAF for the implementation and development of strategies and activities regarding issues and matters that the ASUAF prioritizes.

921.2 The Public Relations Department Directors will meet regularly with the President and the Senate to determine the priorities of ASUAF.

922. Duties of Organizing Director

922.1 The Organizing Director's duties include campus outreach, staffing and developing campus events, providing technical assistance and recruitment to ASUAF events and functions.

922.2 Work with student leaders to positively publicize the ASUAF.

922.3 Assist with coordination of media outreach, and publicity events, to build awareness and support for the ASUAF and its positions on issues.

923. Duties of the Government Relations Director

923.1 Develop and implement organizing and advocacy training programs for student leaders at ASUAF and in the campus community

923.2 To be ASUAF's official lobbyists to the Alaska State Legislature, the Governor of the State of Alaska, the Fairbanks North-Star Borough Assembly, and the Fairbanks City Council, and any other student or governmental entity in which ASUAF has membership or interest.

923.3 To be the Chair of the Government Relations Council and hold regular meetings at least once per month while the legislature is in session.

923.4 To, during the State Legislative Session, give weekly Government Relations, and, when applicable, Government Relations Council reports to the ASUAF Senate.

923.5 To track and report on issues of importance to the students of UAF currently facing official in the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of local, state, and national governments

923.6 To be responsible for sufficiently training, organizing and informing ASUAF representatives sent on advocacy trips.

923.7 To work closely with the ASUAF Senate Public Relations Committee regarding any relevant UA system governance or Alaska state and local government issues.

Be it further enacted,

That the position of Government Relations Director be payed a $1,000 stipend to be taken from Executive Contingency and Projects, line 44 of the budget approved as SB 172-021.

And that the Government Relations Director be provided with a contingency of $500 to be taken from Public Relations Director's line item Legislative Campaign and Miscellaneous, line 61 of the budget approved as SB 172-021.

Be it further enacted,

That every mention of Public Relations Director be replaced with Organizing Director.
